Anil Bhaskaran Creates Climate-friendly Designs for a Better Tomorrow

As the Managing Director, Chief Architect, and Urban Planner at IDEA CENTRE, Bhaskaran has designed over a hundred buildings, including Novitiate and Infirmary, that showcase his commitment to environmental sustainability.

Bhaskaran believes that nature plays a strong role in our lives and that our creations should reflect our experience with the universe. "Anything that we have ever created has had its genesis in our experience with the universe," he says. With a background in architecture and urban planning from the University of Kerala and the University of Minnesota, USA, Bhaskaran draws inspiration from historical structures and vernacular architecture.

"Many of our historical buildings are great examples of judicious use of nature's lessons," he notes. Bhaskaran advocates for incorporating traditional techniques into modern designs, citing the importance of learning from nature's creativity. "Nature offers us many lessons in creativity," he says, pointing out that nature's forms are devoid of straight lines and often serve specific functions or aesthetic purposes.

Bhaskaran's expertise extends to urban planning, with over a decade of research and development in city planning. A prolific speaker and writer, he has received numerous awards for his work. Through his designs and theories, Bhaskaran aims to create a better tomorrow, one building at a time.
