'Strong leadership is built on integrity, empathy and the ability to bring out the best in others'
Michael Andrew Giddings, CEO, Fidelity National Financial India (FNF India), takes us through his leadership philosophy and ideologies, and the leadership development practices underway at the company

- How do you see leadership evolving in your industry over the next 3-5 years?
Leadership over the next 3–5 years is poised to evolve in several critical ways, especially as automation, AI, and digital transformation reshape industries. Effective leadership won’t just be about adapting to change—it’ll be about anticipating change and preparing organizations for it with agility, empathy, and empowerment.
In this rapidly changing landscape, leaders will be expected to create cultures of continuous learning, encourage experimentation, and support their teams through periods of uncertainty and transformation. Ultimately, the leaders who thrive will be those who can combine strategic foresight with a deep commitment to people.
- What core values do you expect leaders at FNFI to embody, and why are they important?
At FNFI, we expect our leaders to consistently embody five core values: integrity, accountability, respect, transparency, and empathy. These values are not just ideals—they are the foundation of our culture and critical to building trust, fostering collaboration, and driving long-term success.
By consistently embodying these values, FNFI leaders create a culture of trust, collaboration, and high performance. These principles are not only critical to our current success but also position us to thrive in the future.
- How is FNFI preparing its leaders to meet future challenges, and what unique leadership development practices does the organization offer?
FNFI is deeply committed to preparing its leaders for both current and future challenges through a robust, multi-faceted approach to leadership development. We recognize that the landscape is evolving rapidly, and our leaders must be equipped not just with technical skills, but also with the vision and adaptability to thrive in uncertainty.
Our leadership development strategy is intentionally designed to address both skill-building and inclusive growth. We offer a suite of programs tailored to different stages of leadership:
- Apex: Our flagship program for high-potential leaders, offering advanced training, mentorship, and exposure to strategic priorities. Apex accelerates development by immersing leaders in real-world challenges and providing them with the tools to drive business impact.
- Bullseye: Focused on building a strong pipeline of future women leaders, Bullseye provides tailored development, community support, and increased visibility to ensure diverse representation at every level.
- Embark: This program fosters collaboration by bringing leaders together to share challenges, co-create solutions, and build cross-functional relationships, strengthening our organizational fabric.
- Leader’s League: Our mentoring initiative stands out for its emphasis on active listening and two-way learning. Mentors are encouraged to deeply understand their mentees’ perspectives and aspirations, providing personalized guidance and support. This approach not only accelerates individual growth but also reinforces our leadership culture and ensures the intentional transfer of knowledge and values.
These practices are underpinned by a culture of continuous development, open dialogue, and shared commitment to FNFI’s core values. By investing in our leaders’ growth and creating space for innovation and collaboration, we are building a resilient leadership pipeline that is ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
- What is your personal leadership philosophy, and how has it shaped FNFI’s culture and success?
My leadership philosophy is rooted in strategic clarity, high expectations, and a relentless focus on results—while empowering leaders with the freedom to build a culture where people thrive.
I believe that great leadership starts with a clear vision and direction. At FNFI, I set ambitious goals and high standards, but I also trust my leaders to determine how best to deliver results. That trust creates a sense of ownership, accountability, and innovation at every level of the organization.
Equally important is the belief that culture drives performance. I’ve intentionally created space for leaders to shape a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and challenged. We prioritize transparency, collaboration, and continuous learning, and that has helped FNFI become not just a strong-performing organization—but a great place to work.
This balance of strategic focus and cultural empowerment has been a key driver of our success. It’s allowed us to attract top talent, retain high performers, and stay ahead in a competitive and evolving industry.
- What advice would you give to young managers aspiring to be effective leaders?
My advice to young managers is simple but powerful: learn from those who inspire you—but always take the time to develop your own authentic leadership style.
Along your journey, you’ll encounter great leaders whose example you’ll want to follow—and others whose approach may not align with your values or vision. Both experiences are valuable. Observe what works, understand why it works, and take the best of what you’ve seen to shape a leadership approach that is truly your own.
Leadership isn’t about imitation—it’s about being self-aware, genuine, and consistent. Stay curious, seek feedback, and lead with humility. As you grow, remember that strong leadership is built on integrity, empathy, and the ability to bring out the best in others. That’s what earns trust and drives lasting impact.
